I downloaded over a dozen trial versions of PIM's. If I had started with GNB, my search would have been over right away. Not one PIM met my criteria except GNB: easy to learn, reasonable price, responsive and knowledgeable tech support, no size restrictions on files, ability to link in many ways, rich text editing capabilities, ability to attach files and personal notes to articles, intuitive structure for categories within databases, yet maintaining flexible database creation, advanced search features with "easy to browse" method to make retrieving articles simple. Normally, when I am learning a program I hit a "wall" and become completely frustrated and just plain "give up". With GNB's tech support and user forum, you feel the support of others, learn from their comments, and get fast answers when you need them. Plus, upgrades and tech support are free.

Highly flexible tool that can be adapted very easily to the characteristics of an specific enterprise.
Do not required highly capable personnel to configure it.
According to other tools General Knowledge Base it is more easy to set up and network set up can be made in minutes and do not require a huge amount of time like othe tools.
General Knowledge Base it has all the capabilities required to for an SME and the price is very accesible for any type of enterprise.

Pros: A very easy handling made it possible, to add the first information of my alternative health database within a few minutes. I also use the product for other kinds of text databases as for my customers and some personal things which I grab from books and don`t want to forget.
Search is very fast, the design is variable and smooth. Way better than complicated Ask Sam, Alpha Base and similar.

I personally use GeneralKnowledgeBase for storing thousands of documents and articles. Among other useful functions of the program are: First you can SEE and READ the document without actually open it. Next it's very easy to link one document to several different folders. (for example: I have an article downloaded entitled ""A MODEST PROPOSAL TO DEREGULATE INFANT ADOPTIONS"" written by Donald J. Boudreaux from the CATO Journal vol.15 No.1. So I create a folder with all articles written by Boudreaux and store the text there. I already have folders named 'Adoption', 'CATO Journal'. With a single drag and drop then I connect the text to the other folders. It doesn't get any more convenient than this. It also means that you don't get x-copies of the same file in your database. And in case of editing you only have to do it once). Then you have the option to create Notes for every document, search- and linkable (though you have to be inside the notetext to search it). You can also make attachments to each document, be they pictures or other texts or webpages etc.. 'Bookmarks' is another feature to store documents that you often use. The programe is capable of editing your text, format, font, preview and all, you can also work with tables (in the article itself as well as in the notes). With GKB you can export your documents - single or batch - to .RTF, .DOC, .HTML and even .PDF. Support is excellent! So it's great value at a great price . Download it, try it, by it, use it, enjoy it. Gerold Fritsche
Hi, just wanted to let everyone know that I am very pleased with the General Knowledge application. I work for a University here in Canada as a helpdesk analyst and we started using the software as a FAQ Knowlegebase for problems arising with staff and students.
I am currently 'converting' our HTML collection of FAQ's to the database. Which is easy by using the 'Insert', 'File' option in the 'New Article' window. I am inserting html pages that sometimes contain graphics, links and tables. Never had a problem with any of these pages. Once I am done, I have added around 500 html pages into the database. The reason for this conversion was that it was hard to find data online. We where using HTDIG to search through the articles..
Anyways, thanks for a GREAT program. Gunnar Schwede Athabasca University
I am very happy to have found a PIM with allmost all needed features, implemented very well. The things I like most are: 1) Excellent, modern User Interface: Allows different predefined Layouts of windows. 2) Editor allows adjusting the layout of bullets and numbering. 3) Pictures can be stored in the database. 4) Every Article can be in 1 or more category (!). An Article can have beside attachments also a note [same editor as for articles used]: This is very usefull to comment already terminated own arctiles or to use as an idea collector. 5) Edit mode is automatically activated when beginning to type 6) Export to different format (PDF even with many options) 7) From the modeless search dialog you can e.g. navigate to each matching entry (and article of course)! The dialog can be minimized too, so you can work on with articles not half hidden from a seach dialog! 8) Password protection possible For me, the General Knowledge Base has almost all important features, and, what is even more important, has no "non-sense" features! The response from support is also excellent (fast). Nathan Troxler
Already among the best general purpose Information Managers
out there. The interface is easy to use and easy to customize.
The editor portion is robust and table support within
the editor is better than most. Have experienced no stability
problems and the software is quick and responsive even
after being left up and running all day. This one is definitely
worth a look. Glenn Davis
With GKB, you can make a favourite list for internet,
you can use a dairy, or memo book. You can take a notes
for your reading books or take an abstracts for your scientific
research. GKB is usefull more than I expect. Now, I start tu use it not only
scientific research also use it for a personal budget, an internet
memobook, a diary, a library that have some book or paper abstract. Ferit Kemal Sonmez
Upon starting university I quickly found that the amount of information we were given was astronomical. General knowledge base helped me to organize relavant information and I truly beleive that it helped me throughout my years there. At the end of my three years the use of the program spread to my flatmates which shared the responsibility of updating our shared db after lectures etc... Now I use it for various snippets of information which would make my computer very messy if I used my previous methods of filing. Blake Jolley
I'm very grateful to finally have a method to handle those issues that "don't seem to fit" anywhere because of the inability to search and quickly locate the information. Thanks again! Rob
I plan to track the services to clients at a large human
service agency using General Knowledge Base. General Knowledge
Base seems perfectly suited for that with versions on
a desktop and laptop. I am looking forward to building
my "Knowledge Base" with it. The only requested feature
is the ability to have an automatic index of "knowledge"
included when exporting to HTML. Thanks Tom, for a great
product and for your generosity to our agency. Put us
on your mailing list and advise us when updates are available. Robert Collesano Prevention Treatment Coordinator Florida Shelter For The Homeless
I ran across this program while searching for an application to help me keep track of the various notes and thoughts I have on various subjects, and I've been extremely impressed. I've found myself using it very regularly and am at the point that I couldn't live without it. Josh Denmark
I have tried all the PIM products out there. In fact I
have bought a number of them. General Knowledge Base is
an extremely promsing product. For a product in only Version
2, it has a number of very advanced features, and the
user interface is especially excellent. The principal
developer Tomas is extremely responsive to email - best
I've come across. The current version contains functionality
suitable for even sophisticated users - so I am especially
excited about the future for Genernal Knowledge Base.
Well done Tomas! Ian Goldsmid

This is great knowledge base and I am using it everyday to manage my notes, ideas, internet links, documents, magazine articles and books. Simple of use and great support. Also there are additional knowledge bases created by other users and can be downloaded from home page of this program. Pavel Porubcan

Tout est là, il ne reste qu'à apprendre à l'utiliser (facile avec le démo animé). General Knowledge Base est une excellente solution pour la gestion des bases de connaissances internes. Ne cherchez plus, vous avez trouvé! Régis Martel

I have been looking for a single user Knowledge tool for some time and have trialled several. A lot of products are targeted at the big end of town and are priced accordingly. GKB is an excellent tool for the price. The ability to embed or link attachments or create content within its own editor gives the user plenty of flexibility to build there own knowledge base. The essentials such as keyword searching, bookmarking and categorization of content are all there. John Price

As a business owner I needed a program that was quick and efficient. Somewhere I could store those thousands of little items that I may someday need. I didn't want to file them because they'd never be seen again. It works fairly well as a helpdesk tool as long as you don't need that much info. More for problem and resolution than tracking of issues but that's what I needed it for and the GKB works nicely for that. Thomas McLerran
